Eidfjord municipality is located at the head of the Hardangerfjord, where fjord meets mountains and the Hardangervidda plateau. With about 950 inhabitants, the municipality is known for its magnificent nature, strong outdoor traditions and some of Western Norway's most visited destinations.

Tourism is an important industry in Eidfjord, along with hydropower, small-scale industry and agriculture. The municipality works for sustainable development and good services, and facilitates a vibrant local community and an active business sector.
